Formula One unites to raise over £500,000 for charity

Ahead of the British Grand Prix Formula One racing’s great and good traditionally come together for an annual party held in aid of Great Ormond Street Hospital Children’s Charity. This year’s event took place at London’s Natural History Museum on Monday night, and with such a breathtaking venue and priceless charity auction lots on offer, the guests were more than willing to put their hands in their pockets for a worthy cause. Now in its sixth year, the official F1 Party celebrates the official launch of this weekend’s Silverstone race, whilst simultaneously raising funds for the London hospital’s new heart and lung centre.

Upgrade will help us fight for British GP win, Hamilton and Button say

Lewis Hamilton and Jenson Button said they expect to be in the hunt for victory in the British Grand Prix this weekend as McLaren bring another performance upgrade for their home race. Speaking at a press conference in London today the pair were also enthusiastic about racing on the revised Silverstone circuit, with Hamilton saying he expects the track will be “even faster” than before.

Silverstone ’58 – Hawthorn & Collins’ all-English affair

Given their form of late – and the fact they’ll be armed with a heavily-revised McLaren – Jenson Button and Lewis Hamilton could well challenge for a one-two at this weekend’s British Grand Prix. As in 2009 when Brawn dominated the first half of the season with its double diffuser, Red Bull has enjoyed a similar performance advantage this year. Boullier: Renault have risen to the challenge

Prior to the start of their 2010 campaign, Renault had been all but written off by many. Their parent company had sold off a chunk of the team, the R30 looked less than convincing in pre-season testing, and their line-up included a rookie driver and a new team principal fresh to Formula One.

New Silverstone ‘even tougher on tyres’

Bridgestone say the revised Silverstone circuit will be even tougher on tyres than the previous layout – which was already one of the hardest on the calendar for tyre wear. Director of motorsport tyre development Hirohide Hamashima said: The track was previously one of the most severe for the tyres in terms of layout and circuit roughness on the calendar. The new layout, if anything, makes it more punishing, and certainly too severe to bring our super soft compound.

Lotus confirms more Friday outings for Fauzy

Malaysian driver Fairuz Fauzy will back in the cockpit at Silverstone on Friday as he gets another practice outing for Lotus. Fauzy will also participate in Friday morning sessions at the Hungarian, Singapore and Abu Dhabi Grands Prix. It follows successful pre-season tests for the 27-year-old from Kuala Lumpur and an impressive appearance for Lotus earlier this year in practice for the Malaysian Grand Prix…
