I was obviously thrilled by his two overtaking moves at the end of the race, but what impressed me most was how Kamui mastered his long stint on the hard tyres.

The F1 Fanatic Predictions Championship is as closely-fought as ever with Scunnyman edging into a one-point lead over Arpi_ as we pass the halfwau mark. Victory in round nine went to Mateusz (actually there should be several more ‘z’s in there) and Ace claimed the runners-up prize – by just three-thousandths of a second. Alonso retracts harsh words over Valencia

Fernando Alonso, Ferrari, Valencia, 2010 Having pilloried the European Grand Prix stewards in the 48 hours following the race, Ferrari have begun to tone down their criticism of Sunday’s event. Fernando Alonso was first to take a step back from his earlier criticism of the race as “manipulated”, saying “we should talk about it together in a calm way, to ensure that things like this do not happen again.” Alonso said: We were particularly unlucky in terms of the timing of when the safety car appeared on track.

FIA must learn from Valencia shambles

There’s no reason to believe Ferrari’s claim that the European Grand Prix was somehow “manipulated” . But considering the penalties that were handed out, particularly the nine drivers who were penalised after the race was finished, it’s clear there’s still room for improvement in how F1 races are refereed.

Sam Michael Q&A: Williams targeting more points

From ninth on the Valencia grid to a fourth-place finish, Williams’ Rubens Barrichello – and his FW32 – enjoyed a very strong European Grand Prix. And although Nico Hulkenberg’s race ended prematurely, he had also been running in the top ten in the second Williams. Overall it was a successful outing for the British team, and Sam Michael, Williams’ technical director, is confident they will be equally competitive at the forthcoming Silverstone race…
