Nine drivers have been handed time penalties after the European Grand Prix. All the drivers investigated for the speed behind the safety car received five-second penalties: Jenson Button , Nico Hülkenberg, Rubens Barrichello, Robert Kubica, Vitaly Petrov, Adrian Sutil, Vitantonio Liuzzi, Sebastien Buemi and Pedro de la Rosa

Vettel wins chaotic race in Valencia (European Grand Prix review)

Sebastian Vettel scored his second win of 2010 in the European Grand Prix. Vettel was chased home by the two McLarens, Lewis Hamilton delayed by a drive-through penalty and Jenson Button spending much of the race behind Kamui Kobayashi. The outcome of the race was decided by a safety car period following a violent crash for Vettel’s team mate Mark Webber .

Mark Webber’s European Grand Prix came to a dramatic end when he crashed violently with Heikki Kovalainen. The Red Bull and Lotus drivers were racing for position and collided at the fastest point of the track approach turn 12. Webber hit the back of the Kovalainen’s car and flew through the air.

Wondering whether we might see our first decent race in Valencia this year I wrote this in the European Grand Prix preview : The best we can hope for is a similar situation to what happened in Turkey, with the faster McLarens and probably Ferraris starting behind the Red Bulls and a battle for the lead developing on-track that way. European Grand Prix qualifying in pictures Sebastien Buemi was happy with his best qualifying position of the year at Valencia but said he could have qualified in the top ten. The Toro Rosso driver blamed Rubens Barrichello for holding him up on his best lap in Q2: It’s my best qualifying result of the season and I did not expect to do so well before the start of the session, which is a reason to be pleased. On the other hand, I am a bit disappointed because Barrichello was ahead of me going into the final corner on my last flying lap and he really slowed me down.
