The F1 tyre arrangements under Pirelli in 2011 will be similar to those under Bridgestone this year. Pirelli will supply four types of dry weather tyre plus intermediate and wet weather tyres, as Bridgestone currently do. There are no changes expected in the rules under which drivers have a choice of two compounds during a race weekend and must use one of each during the race
The European Grand Prix may be two months earlier on the calendar this year but it will have little effect on the temperatures at the track this weekend. Hot and dry conditions are forecast for all three days of the event with temperatures in the high 20s – just as they were last year when the race was held in August.

Heinz-Harald Frentzen will be the drivers’ representative on the stewards’ panel for this weekend’s European Grand Prix. Frentzen raced in F1 from 1994 to 2003, starting 156 races for Sauber, Williams , Jordan (twice), Prost and Arrows. The German driver entered F1 having been on Mercedes’ young driver programme with Michael Schumacher and Karl Wendlinger
McLaren engineering director Paddy Lowe expects Ferrari to be competitive in this weekend’s European Grand Prix as their rivals bring several upgrades to their F10 . Speaking during the Vodafone McLaren Mercedes Phone-In Lowe said McLaren weren’t bringing their version of Red Bull’s exhaust-driven diffuser until the British Grand Prix: For the Valencia weekend we’re not promising a massive step in terms of car upgrades.

The promoters of the European Grand Prix at Valencia have reacted to criticism of the track’s appearance by painting parts of it green. They hope this will make it easier for television viewers to distinguish between the 25 corners on the 5.4km track. According to promoter Valmor Sports: Valencia Street Circuit this year has a new colour in its design, this colour is green to simulate the grass and to give more colour to the path.
Lewis Hamilton and Jenson Button will drive a McLaren-TAG MP4-2C of the same type Alain Prost used to win the 1986 world championship next month. The pair will take turns driving the car at the Goodwood Festival of Speed. They will also drive a 2008-spec Mercedes-powered MP4-23 which Hamilton won the world championship with two years ago
Lotus will race with special logos on their car marking the team’s 500th Grand Prix start this weekend. Clive Chapman, son of team founder Colin, will be present at the European Grand Prix as part of the celebrations.
