Force India have announced that test driver Vitantonio Liuzzi will assume driving duties of car number 21 from this weekend’s Italian Grand Prix, taking over from Giancarlo Fisichella who has moved to Ferrari. After evaluating options following Fisichella’s switch, Liuzzi has been promoted to the race seat from Monza onwards

The Renault team and Fernando Alonso completed a successful Roadshow in Oviedo (northern Spain) on Saturday as Alonso drove his Formula One car on the streets of his hometown for the first time in front of 170,000 spectators. The engine used by Brawn GP’s Rubens Barrichello in the recent Belgian Grand Prix did not sustain significant damage, despite the Brazilian arriving in parc ferme with the rear of his car in flames. Small plumes of smoke started appearing from the back of Barrichello’s BGP001 in the closing laps at Spa, but didn’t stop the Brazilian taking the chequered flag for seventh place. Giancarlo Fisichella has described his switch to Ferrari as ‘a dream come true’ after Force India agreed to release him from his contract with immediate effect.
