From ninth on the Valencia grid to a fourth-place finish, Williams’ Rubens Barrichello – and his FW32 – enjoyed a very strong European Grand Prix. And although Nico Hulkenberg’s race ended prematurely, he had also been running in the top ten in the second Williams. Overall it was a successful outing for the British team, and Sam Michael, Williams’ technical director, is confident they will be equally competitive at the forthcoming Silverstone race
Red Bull Mark Webber insists his high-speed crash in Sunday’s European Grand Prix will not hamper his preparations for the next round of the championship at Silverstone.
Given Red Bull’s 2010 pace, it’s hard to believe that Sebastian Vettel’s European Grand Prix victory was only his second win of the season. Lewis Hamilton may have extended his championship lead with second place, but Vettel now has him – and McLaren team mate Jenson Button – back in his sights.
Red Bull’s Sebastian Vettel bounced himself back into contention for the world championship with an easy European Grand Prix win in Valencia on a day when a spectacular back flip left Mark Webber on the sidelines in the other Red Bull. Vettel led from the start, defending strongly against a forceful Lewis Hamilton in the McLaren and Ferrari’s Fernando Alonso in the first corner, as Webber was hung out to dry in the heavy traffic and dropped to ninth from second on the grid.
On Saturday in Valencia Sebastian Vettel took his fourth pole position of the season, and Red Bull’s eighth. Sebastian Vettel pushed Robert Kubica off the top slot on the final lap of a gripping final practice session in Valencia this morning, as the leading runners slogged it out and those with ‘blown’ diffuser aerodynamics leapt ahead of the McLaren duo that had ruled the roost in Turkey and Canada. Vettel banged round in 1m 38.052s for Red Bull, pushing aside Kubica’s 1m 38.154s for Renault right at the end
The start of the 2010 season saw Toro Rosso’s Sebastian Buemi retreating into the shadows, with difficult races and unsatisfying results. Since Monaco, however, the Swiss driver has been on an upward trend, culminating in four points in Montreal. That has triggered a taste for more – starting in Valencia this weekend
Fernando Alonso made best use of Ferrari’s new aero package to set the fastest lap in the second practice session in Valencia on Friday afternoon. The local hero’s 1m 39.283s best was 0.056s faster than Red Bull’s Sebastian Vettel who recorded 1m 39.339s, and 0.144s ahead of the German’s team mate Mark Webber on 1m 39.427s…
