Bridgestone say the revised Silverstone circuit will be even tougher on tyres than the previous layout – which was already one of the hardest on the calendar for tyre wear. Director of motorsport tyre development Hirohide Hamashima said: The track was previously one of the most severe for the tyres in terms of layout and circuit roughness on the calendar. The new layout, if anything, makes it more punishing, and certainly too severe to bring our super soft compound.

The Goodwood Festival of Speed begins today and there are over 50 F1 cars present celebrating the 60th anniversary of the first world championship season. The picture collection below show the F1 cars’ first run up the hill this morning in front of a packed crowd. Kamui Kobayashi rode his luck to take a terrific seventh place. The highlight of his race were two bold passes in the final laps, taking Fernando Alonso and Sebastien Buemi. That elevated him to seventh, Sauber’s best result of the year to date
