The World Motor Sport Council (WMSC) met in Bahrain on Thursday and agreed a number of matters in relation to the FIA Formula One World Championship. BMW Sauber announced on Friday that they will support young driver Esteban Gutierrez this season. Eighteen year-old Gutierrez will attend a number of Grands Prix with the team and will be incorporated into the team’s driver development programme, which means he’ll follow the same training regime as race drivers Pedro de la Rosa and Kamui Kobayashi. The Mexican enjoyed his first taste of Formula One power last year with BMW Sauber at December’s young driver test.

Silverstone have announced that this year’s British Grand Prix will take place on the track’s new ‘arena’ layout. The modified circuit has been approved by Formula One Management, and with building work set to finish in March, everything should be ready in time for race weekend on July 9-11.
