Lewis Hamilton reckons it’s important to push for wins rather than settle for point to be competitive in the world championship this year. Fernando Alonso enjoyed the fastest pit stop of the Canadian Grand Prix – which helped him jump ahead of Lewis Hamilton early in the race. No other team managed a pit stop within a quarter of a second as fast as Ferrari’s lightning-quick effort
Hamilton withstood pressure from Alonso for much of the race Hamilton delivered a top-drawer performance, under considerable pressure for most of the race, to win the Canadian Grand Prix and take the championship lead. McLaren made a risky call on strategy which was ultimately vindicated and Hamilton bounced back from another pit stop setback with some great overtaking.
The unpredictable tyre performance in Canada probably flattered Lotus a little but nonetheless this was the most convincing performance by a new team so far this year.
